We vowed, “To love and cherish.”
Now we can’t stand each other.
Marriage can become so difficult that people who once loved each other so much they couldn’t see straight now can’t stand the sight of each other. And there are no easy or quick solutions. However, it doesn’t have to end in divorce either. God designed marriage and he can help.
The Bible teaches that the fundamental cause of all strife is sin. To put it simply, “sin” is selfishness. It is to want what you want, not what your spouse wants.
More pointedly, it is to want what you want and not what God wants. As long as you are the Master of your own life you will fail with God and in marriage. The first step to fixing your marriage is putting Jesus first in your life and then put your spouse before yourself.
“Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had.” – Philippians 2.3-5
